                           About Venkateswara Swami Temple

Sri Venkateswara`s Temple which is the most ancient Prligrim Center Is India is on Tirumala Hill.This Temple is in the geographical limits of Tirupathi in Chittoor District.It is on the south of eartern ghats in Andhra Pradesh.Sri Venkateswara Swamy who is on the Tirumala hill got the fame of being the most sacred in India even before 18th  Century


   Tirumala Hill is situated at a height of 3200 feet above the sea level. Its area is 10.33 Sq.Km.It is said that Seven Hills are the seven hoods of Adiseshu.Experts in geography ,archaelogists,epics ,Puranas say that Swamy took the form of Sahaja Sila Toranam before 1600 crore million years ago

 Venkateswara Temple which is respectable and ancient is on the Seventh Hill which is one of the seven hills.He is popularly called dweller on the seven hills the ruler of the seven hills because the god made his appearance in the form of a statue on Seshachala,Garudachala,Narayanachala,Vrushabhachala ,Vrushacala,Anjaneyachala,Venkatachala which are Seven Hills.He is called Srinivasa .Since he has put on Sri Maha Lakshmi,he is called Tirumalesa ,Tirumalappa,Timmappa.Hence he lives in Tirumala ,Swamys temple was constructed on the bank of Swamy Pushakarini.


He has got the Venkateswara  since he has setup his residence on Venkatachalam.Moreover, he is being worshipped as Edukondala vadu.In  sacred Hindu Sastra Sri venkateswara Temple is the most popular piligrims center. According Sastras ,Puranas and Sthala Mahatyas(divine significance of the place)Solation is possible only through visiting Sri venkateswara swamy that auspicious happenings occur to the devotees who visit the Swamy is detarted in Rugveda and Ashtadasa Puranas.Swamy was decribed as the leader who gives boons to the devotees easily.So many books which speak about swamy`s history and mahima were written.

  Sri venkateswara` Temple will be in accordance with  Vaishnava Sampradaya.Let us make our lives meaningfull by visiting Venkateswara Swamy who made his presence in the central part of the Temple. We can see Mandapas statues and doors which were carved and designed in a beautiful way in the premises of the Temple


  That which should be visited and known in the premises of the Temple

  Sampenga Pradakshinana

 Walking around the Temple one is called Pradakshina.In the main temple,three compound walls (prakaras).The pradakshina which is done along the second foot path between the last and the middle prakaras is called Sampamgi Pradakshina.Now this way is closed. On this way ,we find Prathima Mandapam ,Ranga Mandapa,Tirumala Raya manadapa,Sahiva Raya mandapa,Aina mahal, and Dwaja Sthamba Mandapa..

Tirumalaraya Mandapa


  There is a big Mandapa Opposite to Dwaja Stambha and on the west of Ranga Mandapa or Anna Oonajal Mandapa.In this Mandapas part is down ward  and the remaining part at an elevation .Saluva Narashimha in 1473 Built the Temple part to celebrate a festival called Anna Oonjal Tirumal.Later this part was extended by Aravath Bukkaraya Rama Raju,Sri Ranga Raju,and Tirumala Raju


The embodiment of the celebration Malayappa swamy signals the beginning of Brahmothasavas in this Mandapa.This Prasadam which is distributed on this occasion is called Tirumala Raya Pongal.

   We can see the pillars which were built in Vijayanagara style in this Mandapa.In this middelo is a big pillar while small pillars are around it.if we touch some of these with it stone ,they introduces musical sounds.On the main pillars sceneray,in which we can see soldiers with guns sitting on the roaring lions was,carved.Some of these can be said to be the models of the best sculpture.In the corner of the Mandapa,we can see statue Thondaramallu his mother Mohana Devi and his wife Rhitah Bibi which were made of bronze


  Ranga Mandapam

  This mandapa is called Ranga Nayakula Mandapam.This is on the south-east of Sampangi Pradikshana.Swamy Utsavamurthy Ranga Nadhas statue which is in this Mandapa belongs to Sri Rangam.According to history the statue which was there in the temple in Sri Rangam was brought here and installed here


           According to History this Mandapa  built by Yadava King Sri Ranga Nadha Yadhava Raya,between 1320 and 1360.This installation of the statue also took place then

Sri krishana Deva Raya Mandapa

   The mandapam which we come across after crossing Pada Kavali Maha Dwaram is Called KrishnaDevaraya Mandapam or Prathima Mandpam

  We can see here the statues of Sri krishana Deva Raya`s  two wifes made of Bronze.This is called Krishnadeva Raya Mandapam due to the presence of these Statues.We can see the statues of Tirumala Devi on the left side and Chinna devi on right side of Krishna Deva Raya`s Statue.These three statues are in the position in which the three are greeting  the God with folded  hands

   We can see the statue of Venkatapathi Raya who was the emperor of Aravidi Empire on the southern part of the Mandapa .He ruled Chandragiri in 1570.By the side of this statue we can find stone statue of Achyuthraya .He is the Successor of Sri Krishan Deva Raya

  This Mandapa was constructed in the 16th Century.We can see the pictures belonging to Vijayanagara time in this mandapam.The scenes Depicting Rama,Breaking the bow,the Coronation Of Rama,during acts of Sri Krishna offer a feast to the eyes.Vaishnava symbols were carved on too important pillars In the Mandapa

Padi  Kavali Maha Dwaram

This is also called Mukha Dwara or Simha Dwara(main gate).This Gopura Which is outside  was built on lines of Chola`s Vasthu.Stone inscriptions on this Gopuram belong to the 17th Century.We can see the pictures of Vaishnava Gods on this Gopuram

Aina Mahal

  This is on the north of Tirumala Raya Mandapam.It has two parts.On the front part of outside Mandapa there are six Stupas in six Rows while in the second part the embodiments of the God is in inner and central part of the Mandapa

                          
 This Garbha Griha is full of mirrors Several images can be seen in these mirrors,cradle will be in the middle.At the time of festivals ,Swami is seated in this Cradle .service is done to him by rocking the cradle.

 Nadimipadi kavalina
            
This is situated at the entrance of this mandapam.This way will be through Dwaja Sthambha Mandapam Dwara .the wooden doors of this mandapa are covered with sheets of silver.These doors smaller than those on the outside Gopura.On the inner wall, we can see thousands of incriptions.These belong to the time when Jata Varma Sundara Pandya ruled.

 









 Sankeerthana  Bandara
  On the west of Bhasyakara Sannidhi,there is a smll room beside Mukha Mandapam .This is called Jalapakamara or Samkeerthana Bhandara.Tallapaka Annmacharya .his son Peda Tirumalacharyullu and his grand son China Tirumalacharyulu were devoted to the enbodiment (Murthy) of Swamy and wrote Divine SongsThese were preserved in this room,Among these Tallapaka Annamachary a was important .He came up to the hill worshiping Swamy,he wrote million of songs he got good recognition in South Indian Music
                                                                   
These songs were divided into three parts Adhatma songs/Psamis,Romanti psalms and Romantic Maryarils

These psalms before being shitted to Tirumala were preserved in Tapakamara for about  400 years

 Later these were published under the supervision of Sudha Subrahmanya Sastry during the period of Prayaga Dasu.


Vimana Pradakshina

  Every devotee goes round Garbhalaya .It is called Pradikshana.In this way ,We can see Vimana Venkateswara nothing on the Gopuram of the Temple.those devotees who pleadged rolling their bodies (Anga Pradakshana) around the Mandapa fulfill them


Sri  Varada Raja Swamy Murthy

Special embodiment (Pratyeka Murthy) Sri Varaha Raja Swamy is on the eastern direction of Vimana murthy ,Swamy`s statue Is in the position of standing on the western direction .Of the hands which are above Chakra is in the right hand,conch is in the left hand.The right hand which is below in a position of ressuring.The left hand is in the position of KATYAVALAMBIKA.

Sri Maha Vishnuvu  who is in this form is called Sri Varada Raja Swamy Devotees Worship this Murthi as the Murthy who grants their wishes

                                                                           Potu

  It is the main kitchen .It is on the South of Varada Raja Swamy Murthy .Here the Prasadam which is offered to Swamy is made here. We can see a small Vigraha Murthy Dedicated to  Sri Maha Lakshmi inside the kitchen.She is called Potu Amma or Mada Pulinachiar.it was written in the Puranas that Potu Amma is Recognized as Murthy Vakula Malika who was sent by Varaha Swamy .who was the house keeper of Venkateswara.Vakulamalika was said to have fixed the wedding of Padmavathi and Venkateswara .The Murthy which is similar to Potu Amma Murthy can be seen in Padi Potu.The Kitchen at Sampangi Pradakshanam is called Padi Potu.Annaprasada (Rice as offering to God)is made here.In padi Potu,Laddu,Vada,Appadams and the like are made

Bangaru Baavi (Gold Well)

The Well is in front of Potu is called Bangaru Baavi.This was recognised basing on Vaikuntas Agamas and constructed in accordance with Vijayanagara Vaastu

Poola Ara

The Room Adijacent to Padi Potu on the eastern direction is called Poola Ara.In this room garlands which are made with the flowers which emit fragnace in measured proportions,are made.These garlands are used to decorate Venkateswara`s Statue

  Utsava Murthy (embodiments of the Celebrations)and other Murthy`s in the Temple daily

Ugranam

this is a Godown ,It is on the way to Sampangi Pradikshana on western direction ,Provisions sucha s Gram,flow,jaggery and sugar are stored here.In this place its self ,we can see a machine which changes rams into flour

Virajanadi

 A small well in front of Ugranam is called Virajanadi or Viraja Teertham,Virajanadi,which was Devanadi in Vaikunta, is flowing under Venkateswara`s feet.Above this theertha walls were built similar to a well.This is called Bommala Bavi


 Kshethra Palaka Sila

 One and half feet stone seat on the northeast of Balipeetha (Balipeeta means the place where animals are sacrified) is called Kshethra Palaka Sila.This is the symbol for Kshetra Palaka called them.In the olden days this sila out of Shiva`s Shakthi used to go round the Kshetra and guard it.The priests used to keep the key of temples door on this Sila during night time,and take it in the morning

    it is said that due to some reason a part of  this sila was left here and the remaining part was taken to pandava Theertha.On Shiva Rathri day the authorities of the alya go to this sila in a procession amidist divine music and fix silver namas and eyes to the sila.They offer incence stickes,lights and worship to this sila.Even now the priests who come to sila touch their key bunch and go.Again in the morning they found the Kshetra Palaka Sila with the keys and go round Dhwaja Sthamba and then enter the Temple

 Vagapadi Ara

It is adjacent to the great compound wall on the south eastern direction .In this long Mandapa.Srivari Prasadam is sold to every devotee

 Vimana Venkateswara Swamy

  after swamy`s visits ,if we go round Garbhalaya,we can find a small Temple similar to a nest on the northest of Vimanam.It is decorated with Silver Scorpion (Makara)in this Mandiram a small Statue similar to Swamy`s is found.On either side of Swamy are Garuthmantha and Bala Krishna who is in the dancing position .Hanumantha is also there.They are offering service to God.Sri Swamy is called Vimana Venkateswara Swamy as he is on teh Alaya Vimana Raja Tondam Naidu arranged this Swamy`s Statue

  in the ancient time,devotees used to visit this Swamy after visiting Swamy in Garbhalaya .We will get as much Punyamu we get by visiting Venkateswara Swamy

Kalyana Mandapam

 wedding celebrations car conducted in this Mandapam.This was built in Accordance with Tirumalaraya Mandapa Vaastu style.On the western corner of this Mandapam there is a small Mandapam,We can see Vimana Swamy in this Mandapa.Yaga sala is on the south of this Swamy in this Mandapa.Yaga sala is on the south of this Swamy ,Hommas are conducted here at the time of Brahmotsavas and other utsvas

Sri Vishwaksena Mandapam
 it is in the middle of the way to Mukkoti Pradishana marga on the north of the main Temple Vishwaksena has the most Significant place.according to Vaikhanasa Agamana.According to Vaishnava tradition ,any celebration in Vaishavalaya is started only after worshipping Viswaksena.Viswaksena is the army general of Divine soldiers.According to Puranas.swamy protects the utsavas which are conducted in Vaishana tradition from any evils

   Sri Viswaksena has four hands.Conch and Chakra are in the above hands,gada( a weapon) is in the left hand which is below right hand which is below is as Avagahana hasta.Brahmotsavams are started only after Viswaksena`s celebrations.Devotees believe that if it is done like that Viswaksena protects the Brahmotsavams from amy evils.Viswaksena is taken in a pracession at the time of Adhayanotsava

 Ramara Meda

 it means a great elevation on the ground.It is meant for Rama.On this are the statues of Rama,Seetha,and Lakshmana.But at present these statues have been shifted into Garbhagudi.We can see Viswaksena`s statue also here

Sayana Mandapam

  This is also called Artha Mandapa.According to Agama Sastra this Mandapam is on the front of Garbhagudi and within the reach of the devotees to see easily.This Mandapam is connected to Grabhagudi through the door collected Kula Sekhara Padi.The reason for this is that a Devotee called Alwaru wanted Swamy to take birth as threshold to the Mandapa

  At the Time of Festivals the worships which cannot be conducted are conducted in this Mandapa.This Mandapa  is called to becaue among the utsava and worships done to Swamy Sayanotsava is the last.This service is done to Bhoga srinivas ,who is similar to swamy,There fore this Mandapa is called Sayana Mandapa


Tulabharamu

 we can see the biggest balance which is by the side of Tirumalaraya Mandapa devotees drop in the Hundy the money which is equal to their weight after weighing it in the balance.This is called Tula Dandamu
                                      

Gold Coins
T.T.D authorities sell Gold Coins on which swamy`s symbol is found in the premises of the Temple.Gold and Silver dollars which weight 10,8,5 gms are available.The place where the coins are made is at Bhaghya Karla Mandapam

    Jaya Vijayulu

           These are ten feet Statues which are on either side of gold Porch.They are the committed devotees who guard the temples through the day and night.Through this door we can see the Swamy

  Sri Vari Hundi
  
                  This is also called Koppera.Tis Hundi is arranged among four pillars it is on the north of Gold Parch It is the faith of the Devoteees since Puranic times that in Tirumala Kshetra there is unlimited wealth because Sri Maha Lakshmi Devi took sheltter on Venkateswara`s Chest.The Devotees consider the unlimited wealth,which was never found in the part,as Lakshmi ,they drop their gifts in the hundi ,and go round it one time and come back

   Bangaru VaraLakshmi

   A Life sixe Gold Vara Lakshmi statue is found on the compound wall which is on the west Lakshmi gives Unlimited wealth to the devotees who drop gifts in the hundi.The speciality of this Vara Lakshmi Statue is that it is exactly on the Southeast of Swamy

   Kataha Theerdham

   This Theertha is also called Totti Theertha.It is opposide to Annamacharya Treasure on the way to Vimana Pradikshana .This Theertha is exactly the Theertha which comes from the Swamy`s feet.Swamy Pushkarini bath,Srinivasa Darshan,Drinking of KATAHA Theertha.....these three are Triloka impossibilities popular as greatness
 
  At the time of taking this Theertha,Ashtakshari or Kesava Namas or Venkateswar`s hymus should be chanted

      Mukkoti Pradikshananas

                   After Vimana Pradishanas,Devotees enter Mukkoti Pradishana .This is also Called Vaikunta Pradikshana.This way is in the Vimana Pradikshana way.This wany through the gate in the compound wall which is adjacent to Garbhalaya on the south.The exit is beside the hundi.This way is opened only on Vaikunta ekadasi in Dhanurmasa every year.On the remaining days this way remain closed

Sashtanga Namaskaras

  offering any on all fours :after completing the Main Darshana and other Darshananas.devotees come out through Silver parch,Before leaving the devotees offer Sashtanga Pranams.to Ranga Naika Swamy and say `Srinivasa  !O Vaikuntha Nayaka !bless us to visit you again as soon as possible.Then they take leave of Swamy

SPECIAL THINGS TO BE SEEN IN THE PREMISES OF GARBHALAYA OF SRI VENKATESWARA

    We can see three Mandapas in front of the Garbhagudi in which the main Statue is present .These three mandapas extent up to gold porch.They are Snapa Mandapan,Ramara Meda,and Sayana Mandapa,Popular Porch ,which is between Garbhagruha and Sayana Mandapan is called Kula Sekhara Padi

 Dwajastambha Mandapa

        This place,where Dwaja Stambha and Balipeetha(place where prasadam is offerered) are present is called Dhwaja Sthamba Mandapa.There is a roof on the top of this Mandapa to protect it from rain and Sun light during Celebrations.Dhwaja Sthambha is covered with sheets of gold

             Dhwaja Stambha and Bali Peetha are arranged in Vaikhanasa Agama System

         Snapana Mandapam

      This is also called Tiru villan Kovil .This Mandapam consists four Pillars.We can see carvings on these pillars such as Bala Krishna,Yoga  Narasimha,Kaliya mardana and soon.Among these the carving of Maha Vishnuvu in the position of nothing is the most attractive .This Moorthi has four hands conch and Chakra are in the above hands. We can also see the statues of his devotees who were seate in comfortable position on either side of the Swamy

        Thirumani Mandapam

 
          This is also called Mukha Mandapa.We can see the form of the god first in Thirumamani Mandapa.This was built by Mallanna or Mahadeva Dasu.He was the aemy  General of Chandragiri in the 15th Century

  This Mandapan used as the main Mandapa.After Thomalaseva which is done to Swamy the enbodiment of the celebration in the Garbhagudi .He would be brought to the main Mandapa as Koluvu Srinivasa .Suprabhatham is said in front of his ears

   Here there are two heavy bells which were deciated to Swamy.There are called Thirumani ,this Mandapam is called to because of these names,these are ring in Garbhagudi when Prasadam is offered to Swamy

  We can see a statue dedicated to Garud Swamy on the east of this Mandapan .On the north is a Hundi or a big cylindrical vessel to drop the gifts in

             The Statue of Sri Ramanuja

   We can see it on the north of Vimanan Pradikshana which is adjacent to the treasury of music.Ramanuja was a great Vaishna Acharya.This is also called Bhasyakara Sannidhi.The creater of Tirupathi is Sri Ramanuja Theertha ,the owner who established Sri Vaishnava community here is Sri Ramanuja Theertha

  He designed the flower gardens of the temple.He arranged the methods of prayer and worships and other programmes conducted for swamy.This statue was built in 13th Century.This is on the western direction of  Tirumamani Mandapa.Pandy`s symbol the fish was camed on the wall at the entrance

  The right hand of this statue is in the position of making commentary the left hand with a book

This Murthy is worshipped especially at the time of Adyayonotsava.This is done according to Pancha Ratra Tradition which is very difficult.Special worships are conducted on the occasions of Sandal Powder Celebrations and Bhashyakara Celebrations.This statue is taken to Padi Kavali in a grand procession to meet Malayappa Swamy

 Mukkoti Pradikshanam

The Pradikshana made arround the temple which is betwen Garbhagudi and Mukha Mandapa is called Mukkoti Pradakshana .Acccording to Dravida Sastra

  Mukkoti means Vrata. The fruit of the vrata done today is three Crore times more than that do on Ekadasi

   The devotees will have only two chances to do Mukkoti Pradikshana once a year.The first chance will be on Mukkoti Ekadasi which falls in the months of
Pushya and Dhanurmasa.The next chance will be on Mukkoti Dwadasi.The doors will be opened on the eleventh day .early in the morning after Thiruppavai.They will be closed on the Twelth night that on Margalli on the day of Thiru Dwadasi

Sri Narasimha Swamy`s Statue

  We can see Narasimha Swamy`s statue infront of Ramanuja statue on the left.This statue is similar to Yoga Narasimha Swamy.This statue which has been installed in the 15th Century in an attaractive Mandapa we can see dancing positions/postures on the pillars here

 Gold Porch

  We can reach Garbhalaya from Thirumani Mandapa through Gold Porch for Venkateswar`s Darshan.This is the main gate to reach Swamy Sannidhi

on the either side of Gold Porch we can see the statues of Jaya Vijaya who watch the gate. Thick wooden door will be covered with sheets of gold. .we can see on them, the pictures which describe  Sri Maha Vishnuvu ten incornations .In a straight line opposite to this door are Padi Kavali and Silver Porch

From this gold porch Swamy who has ear ornaments in the shape of crocodiles,crown studded with precious stones.Chakra and Conch,hands that as reach below the pelvis and who is making mindful divine smile is giving his darshan to the devotees offer you Golded hands to Gold Porch by chanting Govinda nama and step in for Swamy`s darshan

Sri Garuda Alayam

  Sri Garuda Swamy is also called Garudalwar.This Swamy will be opposite to the statue of Sri Venkateswara .Garuda who is the vehicel of Sri Swamy ,will always be ready to carry the God

  We can see Statues similar to the embodiment of the Swamy(Murthy)in the corners of Temples compound walls, mandapas,and aeroplanes (Vimanas).

 A flag with Garuda`s picture/figure is located on dhwaja  sthambha at the time of Venkateswara Brahmotsavas.Devotees believe that if they take the prasadam offered to Garuda they will have off spring

 After morning worships to Swamy ,celebrations of enbodiments statue of Swamy are taken  in a palangin to offer Naivedyam(Food item) to the goddesses belonging to the gods family.It is belived that swamy himself supervises the catering facilities to servants ,subordinates and his devotees.Therefore the palanquin is considered as Garuda and Swamy is taken in a palanquin

 Garuda`s celebration statue is kept in Ramara Meda along with other statues

Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple

  Sri Swamy is also called Garija Narasimha Swamy .Swamy`s Temple is on north eastren part of the first compound wall.This statue was carved according to Sastras.Swamys statue is in the postion sitting on knees by keeping the hands on the knees thick cloth is tied as left round the waist.it resembless Vaddanam.( A ornament in the shpae of left worm round of the waist)


The Statue in the main Temple (Garbha Gudi) is given a bath on every Saturday.This is called Thiru Manjana Seva.Specail Worships are conducted to Swamy on the 14th day of Vaisakhamasa Swathi Nakshatra Special Worships are conducted to Swamy`s Statue on the occasion of his Birth Day


SRI VENKATESWARA SWAMY MAIN TEMPLE (GARBHA GUDI OR GARBHALAYA )
Garbhalayam Means the place where Sri Venkateswara who is the leader of all the worlds is situated and receiving the worships of the Devotees.Sri Srinivasa Statue which is under gold umbrella is most attractive and Romantic,The Statue gives Darshan to the devotess in the standing posture.Gold umbrella (Bangaru Gummatam) is called divine aeroplane which is the above of joy swamy,who deserves the little Kalu Venkatanayakah got name and fame

Sri Venkateswara`s life size stone Statue which is attractive ,sacred ancient and divinely significant is called Miram Beram.The statue made its presence by it selft but was not carved by anybody.The ability to carve that type of beautiful Swamy in stone is not present in any type of man and will not in future be present in any type of man

Sri Venkateswara`s four statues which are opposite to the main statue and which are called Utsava,Kethuka,Bali,and Snapanachera,Pancha Vigraha,Prathimas(five statue images )of Sri Chakrathalwar,Sri Seetha Rama Laxmanas.Rukmini Krishnas are given  daily bath and worships

Devotees come from several places to see the Swamy`s Statue momentarily and make their lives meaningful.it is the belife of every devotee that they get solvations in this Kaliyuga only by having the darshan of Sri Venkatanayaka

The Swamy in the main Temple will be with a Crown,The front part of the crown in studded with green precious stones.At the time of festivals.special celebrations,Swamy is decorated with the crown of diamonds

   Two thick vertical lines are kept with melted camphor just above the Swamy`s eyes and in the middle another lines lesser in length is kept in the middle.Among these lines Sandal tilak is used to keep vertival lines along the previous lines ,on the chin below the lips a white talk in the form of a dot is kept

  Swamys ears are decoratted with ornaments in the shape of crocodiles.Swamy gives his darshan with foor hands.Chakra is found in the right hand which is raised and conch in the left hand,the fingers of the right hand which is kept slightly below will be pointing towards the lotus feet of the Swamy.Elders say that devotees will have infinte joy if they fall at the feet of Swamy`s Lotus feet.Swamy`s left hand which is on the front side will be in the porsture o Abhaya (protectione or freedom from fear)Swamy left hand appears as if it were to give solvation if we prayed to swamy

Sri Venkateswara is decorated silk clothes and gold wires are used at appropriate places gold belt (Gold Vaddanam) Nandaka Swaord called Swaya Kathari at the novel gold waist chord and other best ornaments are used to decorate swamy ,gold sacred thread is worn by swamy on left shoulder.From the left shoulder is expands down ward.He pun on Maha Lakshmi Devi on the right side of his chest and Padmavathi on left and gives darshan to the devotees .On the shoulder, the Swamy puts on ornaments in the shape of form of snakes
